Do you Fuyu?

It's a favorite of mine...the Fuyu persimmon.  I can't even bore you with tons of details about the nutritional value!  It's got a mild dose of Vitamin C, some Iron and Potassium.  But really, I like it because it tastes so good.

If you don't like persimmons, maybe you've only tried the Hachiya persimmon, which has a slight point at the bottom and a dark orange-red skin.  This one is astringent before it's ripe, then when it's ripe it has the texture of an apple that has rolled all the way up, then down Mt. Everest.  Mush.

But, ah, the Fuyu...it is a squat little fruit with a lighter orange skin.  It is firm almost like an underripe peach.  It can be eaten while firm.  Mmmmmm.

Maybe this is the year to give the persimmon another chance.

Blessings,
Sheri

The fruits are lovely.

Ryc: you're really talented. You know how to cook and make hairdos.

I used to cut my son's hair when he was young.

Blessings!

Hi Sheri, The fires in Irvine are 50% contained, stopped short of entering Riverside County by our magnificent firefighters and help form the Bush camp. It burned through Whiting Ranch and Peters Canyon, our favorite places to hike and see deer. It burned Santiago Canyon and Majeska Canyon where I have friends. It burned all the wilderness between the 241 up to Corona and Ramona where homes were lost. San Diego was by far the hardest hit, about an hour south of us. Those fires are still raging having wiped out community after community. To me, the amateur, it looks as if someone started setting fires in Malibu and simply drove south lighting fries wherever they could stop. Ours was set from the 241 toll road. Someone just stopped and lit it and drove away. Our church, Saddleback, (which backs up to the toll road), was an evacuation center, an animal refuge for horses and goats and all manner of pets as well as serving 400 firefighters food and shelter during their ordeal. And it gave me the opportunity to serve. I love my church. And I needed to serve that day. I was having a personally tough day and that turned me around.   Where is your son? What does he say happened in his area?

OH, how yummy!  Kaki are in all over the place right now, but I haven't gotten any because they are still on the high side price wise... but that will change here very soon.  Can't wait!!

This is definately not a good time to be working with explosives in Southern Ca. Our schools shut down (due to lack of air in the air) so I would think his employer would also take a few days off.

Moses is doing well. Still a bit traumatized but a mutal friend confirmed that he wasn't hurt but it spurs us on to find him safe housing. Something with a door and a lock, I think...

Thanks for stopping by and for asking after Moses. We really love the kid.

Have you tried the "rolled up Mt. Fuji and then down" textured kind after putting in the freezer for an hour??  It doesn't exactly freeze solid, but is very cold and delicious.  Think of a persimmon popsicle!

I have never seen a persimmon cut as you did in the first picture...as usual, you have given it an "artistic" look, as well as being delicious!  You are so talented.

It's like a mini fruit promotion.  ^-^  I only learned today that those fruits are called persimmons... never remember seeing them in Iowa.  Yes, deprived, I know.

Parenthetical statements are the best! Its the only conceivable way to get my thought process into a coherent (well, somewhat coherent) amalgamation of text. That was a really awkward sentence! And were you referring to a certain roommate I once had? Or is there someone else?

Well, I saw some of these at the store last night (while looking for basil to make pesto...) but they were $2.50 a piece! And they all had an old wrinkly sort of feel to them...

Kaki - as we call them here in Japan is probably my most favorite sight in the fall. All of a sudden, the trees have these amazing golden tree ornaments on them, and we know Kaki season is here, and we are happy :) We devour them until we have had our fill and at the end of the season, we are done....YUM...glorious fruit. I can't believe hardly anyone eats them in America except in cookies....YUCK!

@theboekfamily -

Hey! Do you have the firm ones, or the mushy ones? I like both, but the mushy ones are pretty good in cookies, of course, it's because grandma used to make them...

you must be online...I have to sign off now, gotta go to the boys school. We love the firm ones!!! They don't cook much with kaki over here, just as a side dish, or just plain...and that's how we like them.

Did you get your box yet??? So bummed you haven't gotten it yet.
